Man With Strange Choice Of House Makes Awesome Counter-Top With Pennies

We all love to see someone create something unique and creative, something we haven’t seen before. The results are always incredible!

One man who has created his own little house in a school bus has come up with a unusual method to creating his new worktop.

TheBusExperience  a member on the Reddit site, managed to create a unique worktop in a unique home – his 1996 school bus which he bought for just over $3000.

The man decided to spend his time living in the school bus that he bought and started to renovate the 1996 model into a liveable and modern household. He even managed to build his own toilet and office space!

Now, some would argue that the kitchen worktop is one of the most important parts of the kitchen, and care must be taken when choosing the one for you. This man decided to create his own, bringing his style and passion to life.

The only real way to create this worktop was to create it with pennies … of course. TheBusExperience managed to get his hands onto as many pennies as he could, and began to construct his masterpiece.

Using several materials including plywood and $40 in pennies, he managed to create a unique piece which incorporated his personality and desires for his home.

Have a look at what he did!

So you want to build with pennies, well you need pennies, believe it or not. F

TheBusExperience managed to picked up $40 worth of pennies from the bank.

The average countertop will set you back at least $10 per square foot, so when this guy gets his for just $2, you can see why he done it!

To keep his pennies in place, he needed to get something which would create a seal and not allow the pennies to budge.

The worktop he was going to build was for the kitchen, and naturally needed a space for the sink to go into!

To get the shine factor he was after, he covered them in vinegar to get rid of the nasty looking grime that has built up on the pennies.

The pennies looked mismatch and TheBusExperience states that he wished he would have soaked them overnight – but needs must, he was on a mission.

To create the edges of the worktop, he needed to cut some of them in half.

To build the counter, he needed to create some space. He had to use public areas to build his project whilst living in his bus.

Luckily enough, he managed to find a quiet area to get to work sawing away at the plywood.

The edge of the sink was stenciled onto the plywood.

He drilled holes into the corners which allowed for the rest of the project to fit into place.

And easy as that, there was a hole for the sink.

Now for the wood to be given a quick lick of black paint.

He really wanted to make the pennies the vocal point of his piece and wanted them to be as visible as possible.

Eventually it was time to put on the pennies! He didn’t bother making a design with the different coloured pennies.

It still looked awesome though!

The epoxy was then poured on and left to set.

Epoxy’s hardening time slows down significantly when temperatures drop below 70 °F, and that’s what unfortunately happened here.

This meant that it took even longer for the Epoxy to harder, causing delays in the project and meaning that he had to stay in the parking lot over night, not ideal!

Once the hardening process had been complete, the sink was then put into place.

The worktop was then taken to be sanded down and made to look smooth as a baby’s bottom.

The random look of the countertop works really well and adds definition to the kitchen.

Once it was eventually put into place in the school bus kitchen it added a unique feature, never seen before.

You can take a look at the rest of the bus on this website, as well as on Facebook.
